Kawani, a volunteer management app, was developed in collaboration with Falcon Academy of Science and Technology and the Falcon Watch D.O.G.S. Chair Rich Amparo. This case study focuses on designing the Admin interface to streamline volunteer management processes based on feedback from participating parents.

The Challenge

How Might We Empower Admins for Effective Organizer Management?

Kawani faced challenges in meeting the unique needs of Admin users transitioning from platforms like Calendly and Google Calendar. This shift made coordinating volunteers and organizers difficult, impacting the efficiency of volunteer management.

Admins struggled with:

  1. Managing organizers

  2. Inviting and suspending accounts

  3. Controlling event creation privileges

Addressing these issues is crucial to improving admin usability and optimizing organizer-centric volunteer management.

The Goal

Optimizing Admin Workflow for Organizer-Centric Volunteer Management

This project aimed to enhance the usability of the Kawani app for Admin users by refining their workflow and improving their experience in managing organizers.

The Results

Achievements and pathways forward

The design efforts for the volunteer management app's admin features resulted in a significant positive impact, addressing the specific needs of school community administrators. The usability study revealed overwhelmingly positive feedback:

User Satisfaction: 5 out of 7 users were very satisfied, and 2 were satisfied.

Participant Feedback:

"The new admin features will revolutionize our event management process."

Participant A

"Very satisfied. Can’t wait to try it out!"

Participant C

Key Takeaways

  • Seamless integration of new design elements and ensuring accessibility compliance were crucial.

  • The project presented valuable learning opportunities in navigating unfamiliar territory and meeting WCAG standards.

Next Steps

  • Further iterations will focus on enhancing dashboard analytics and conducting additional usability studies to validate design choices.
